Question 4x4 won't work

I bought my father in laws explorer. It is an xlt with 124k miles. My question is that the 4x4 doesn't engage. It is the electronic type, push button. I have looked at all the fuses under the dash and the hood, all are good. What else is there for me to look at? This is my first Ford and don't know much about the way they set up the 4x4.

The first thing i would do is play around with a test light and make sure you are getting power to the switch. This way you can verify there isn't a broken or corroded connection. The next thing to check would be the operation of the electric solenoid on the transfer case that does the shifting. I am willing to bet that is your culprit.

Yes, the solenoid sounds like it may be the problem, maybe a relay. Test light it all the way!

Arrow Sorry, didn't see this before.

If you still browse this site, and still need help, a great discussion on 4x4 problems and fixes (along with other goodies) is here:
