Angry If i hear this 'clunk' one more time!!!!!!!!

Its aggravating...it really is. I know some of you have had the mysterious clunk sound. I understand the forward and stopping motion from the slipyoke...that makes since to me, but mine occurs when the truck leans side to side (its like something is rolling around in the backseat or bed & happens especiallu over speedbumps. Never happens when Ford drives it and mechanics just find some other part to replace, but never to any advail. Someone, please help before i go insane! Thanks in advance,
Brandon

Unhappy

I feel for you,I have a clunk in my trans when I take off from coasting at 10 to 20 mph:-( You can try checking the obvious, the things that Ford never checks. The tranny mounting bolts, some have had them shear off, resulting in clunks. The leaf spring bushings and u-bolts. The body to frame mount bushings(the 97's and 98's are getting to the age where rubber parts are starting to go)good luck,sincerely,,,,,,98

Just remembered one more thing, some of the 97's had a problem with loose trailer hitch bolts. Do you have the towing pkg.?

I used to have a clunk when turning at very low speed (5-10mph); such as when the truck leaned to one side while pulling into my driveway. I bought the truck used this spring with 55,000 miles and never really noticed any clunk until after I installed a receiver hitch during the summer. About 6 weeks ago, I quit hearing the clunk. ?????
