Another Limited Slip question . . .

According to my window sticker, under OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT, I have:

3.55 RATIO LIMITED SLIP AXLE $285.00

My question: how can I be sure that I do have 'limited slip'?

The rear seems to break loose real easy when the streets are wet and dosen't seem to hook-up until I let off on the gas! Is this normal for 'limited slip'?

Thanks in advance . . .

There are tags on the diff that will tell you what you have. I dont know the codes off hand, someone else can post that for you.

All I have to say is that you probably have the limited slip diff (as do I). And they also included the extra slip tires. I find the same thing I have the LS but it is easy to break the tires loose on wet pavement. My tires have 45K on the and still have quite a bit of tread, but they suck for traction.

if both tires spin, then you have limited slip. Wet pavement on OEM tires will be like ice, so dont judge your traction off the OEM tires. Replace those POS

Limited slip when it "locks" up will spin both wheels in the axle. If you get one wheel peel, you either have a bad LS or open differential. Sometimes it takes a slight application of brake while on the gas to get the LS to lock up.

Broken: You're probably right about the 'extra slip tires'! Mine have been breaking loose since day one!

Matt90GT: I'd like to stay with Goodyears - anyone it particular I should look for?

Check your axle code on your door sticker. I9 is open, H9 is limited. You can also check your diff cover tag, it should have an L somewhere in the equation for limited slip, like "8.8, 3.55 L"

I think you should jack up the rear and spin one tire just to be sure...

2 tags on the diff = LS, 1 tag = open. And yes it is still very possible to breake the tires loose on wet /slippery pavement. LS works best at low torque (starting very slowly on slippery surface). The dif will open when the torque bias between left and right reaches a preset level. To reduce the bias, set the parking break slightly. This will get you through some sand or up a wet boat ramp.

Dvds,

That's the differential with the piston slap and door crack...

Actually, that's a 8.8", 3.73 ratio limited slip......

cpadpl,

Thanks for the info. Haven't seen any door cracks, nor heard PS, at least not yet. I thought maybe some PS this past summer on a trip, but it seems to have dissapeared, or my hearing has weaken to where I can't hear it. I don't think its prone to comming and going, its either there or not.
