What is a Slpine?
Greetings,
As you all can see, I'm not all that saavy when it comes to working on my truck...but I'm learnin'. I have a 97 150 4.6 2wd. I'm having hesitation problems where I get the ole wind up and clunk" and from what I have read here, the slip yoke is the likely problem. I was told that replacing it without the "spline" is worthless. What is a spline and how true is it that I need it. Oh, Oh uh...and how difficult is it to do it yourself?
Thanks a lot!

Huh, just a guess, but the end of the transmission stub shaft has a series of splines cut into it. The universal slip yoke sleeve has the corresponding splines cut into it. The slip yoke sleeve is slipped over the splined transmission drive shaft stub. Thus, the shaft moves the slip yoke by sliding in the sleeve splines...I would presume that whatever problem that is the "slip yoke" problem you found discussed here (I've never heard of it) isn't solved by simply replacing the sleeve, but also by replacing the transmission stub shaft...
But that's just a guess...
