How to manuall shift from 4wd to 2wd??procedures??97' 150 xlt with auto trans

I've tried to do it manually by removing the shift motor then starting it up in neutral and bricking the brake..putting swi5ch in 2wd and turned selector on transfer case to 2w and adjusting the shift motor to fit in..At first I thought it worked but after driving 50ft. It made noise and no longer had power to any wheels..I put it back to 4wd and all was fine.but still stuck in 4wd which I only used twive.the 1st time it took an hour to get out of 4wd..this time its been stuck a week..I only drive it on my dirt driveway now.

You should be able to shift on the fly between 2H and 4H at any speed up to 55 mph. However, to get it in and out of 4L you have to be stopped, foot on the brake, and in neutral.

Until you get it fixed, just remove the front driveshaft.

The front uses vacuum to disconnect, so my guess is you have a vacuum leak on the hoses that goes to the front end. You should be able to follow the hoses down from the pass side fender. What shifts the T case is a mechanical servo or whatever, but if the vacuum does not release the front end, it'll still think it's in 4wd..

Good luck!

I think its the synchronizer in the transfer case ..

I have the halfshafts and hubs disengaged from the front differential but the transfer case wont shift even manually..how do I get the synchronizer to shift at the same ti.me I manually turn the 4×4 side into 2×4
