stuck in 4l

1997 f150 4x4 seems to be stuck in 4low. When accelerating it won't go over 35mpg jumps and jerks yes the light is on and no I don't hear anything when flipping back and forth from 2h to 4l. Please help?

Come to a complete stop, put it in Neutral with your foot on the brake, try to get it out of 4Lo.
