Unhappy Transfer case gremlins

I have a '97 F150 4x4 w/ the manual shift transfer case. We had a snow storm yesterday and i really needed 4WD. Would'nt you know it, it would'nt engage. I've had the truck for about 6 months and it worked fine until yesterday. If I pull the handle down to 4hi the dash light will click on and off. sometimes it engages, sometimes not. Now it's doing the same thing in 4lo. It seems like once it does this several times it will eventually engage and stay. One other thing, it only wants to engage after I row the gear selector from reverse to drive several times.Any of you guys please give me some advice.....thanks...

Well, Its a complex system, but incredibly simple at the same time, Your problem is either a t-case position sensor, a vacuum leak, a vacuum solenoid, a vacuum servo, a wiring problem or the GEM(generic electronic module). Now if you're feeling intimidated don't do a search on this forum, this system was discussed several times in depth by myself and others. If you need some extra help, fell free to e-mail me and we'll work through it.

Good luck
