ABS and 4x4

ABS and 4x4

Does engaging 4 wheel drive turn off the ABS?

Aren't there times while off-roading that you would want the brakes to lock up?

Huh, that's a good point, I never thought about that. No, ABS stays on like Y2k said, and yes I believe wheel lockup actually PROMOTES faster stopping off-road. For example, when wheels are turning that doesn't help stop the truck faster on sand, but when wheels are "locked" sand is being pushed in front of the tire, thus stopping the vehicle faster.

However, with the 3-channel ABS system, at least one rear tire can lockup, if that makes you feel any better...
