I just purchased a 2012 Platinum and I tried to test the 4x4 the traditional way by placing it in 4 hi and slowly making very tight turns. I expected to feel loping or tire scuffing. What I did hear was more of a shutter. DOes this make any sense to anyone? Should I be concerned?

Another way is to find a slick surface (you look to be in Alberta, so I'm sure there is some ice around someplace!)

Put it in "4wd" and you should be able to spin at least one of the front wheels. If only the back wheels spin, it ain't working..

1. Find a vacant lot/area that has very deep snow.
2. Drive it as deep as you can in 2WD until the back wheels spin and forward progress is stopped.
3. Put it in 4 hi and see if you can drive further into the snow. Best scenario is you get deeper and get some wheel spin. If you're by yourself, you should see snow flying past your side windows as the front wheels churn out the snow. If you have someone with you, they should see the front wheels spinning.
4. Put it in 4 lo and back out.

Or the easy way is you could put the whole truck up on jack stands, put it in 4WD and gear and watch all four wheels turn.

 

Ok it appears to work. The noise I hear sounds similar to the traction control. Could that be it? I have never had a vehicle with traction control before so it may just be something I am not use too.
