Time to regear and add lockers... Mostly street weekend off-roader
Thinking about this setup (recommended by mechanic friend)
4.56 Yukon gears with auburn mechanical front and rear lockers...
I at first wasn't sure about the lockers but all the reading I've done seems to be about the auburn ected (electrical)
What's your opinions?

As long as it's a selectable locker and you turn it off on the street and turn it on in the dirt you should be fine. Still not sure about running a locker on the front. If I stumble accross what I saw about it I'll post the link.

Looks like I was wrong on the locker in the front. Here's a little info for you however. Hope some of this helps. I plan on going with ARB if I ever get the money to lift and do gears.

Thanks big B and I think after the opinions and additional "reading material" I'm going to go with front and rear TrueTrac's with Yukon 4.56 gears. Should be ok as long as it's driven with respect on the road (which I do).
I would look further into locking the front. I know I read somewhere that you don't want to lock the front but can't for the life of me find it. You can never do too much research if you ask me!
The reason for not full time locking the front or rear on a street driven truck is it makes turning hard and makes it harder on your truck. The wheels need to turn different speeds when turning, but can't if they're locked. Not as much of a problem offroad because ground has some give and the speeds normally are pretty low. Dry pavement isn't forgiving. In the rear it can cause wheel hop (that chirping noise you'd hear go around a corner) which can damage the axle. Up front same thing, and it limits your turning radius even more.
I believe the op is looking at selectable lockers. They'll lock when he wants them locked otherwise they act as an open diff. Unless I'm wrong? A set up like that should be fine for street use as long as he doesn't run them locked. I'm sure you know quite a bit more about this sort of thing then I do pizzaman (I am following a couple of your posts for my own use later down the road) so please correct me if I am wrong.
That's what I've read is that the truetrac's are ok for street use even in front and rear. Basically only "lock" if one wheel has lost traction. I wish eaton elocker was made for the 9.75 rear end but I haven't seen it on their website...
