Just a guess, but I think somewhere between 500 and 800 bucks. somebody else might be able to help you better with that. I've never had one done, and it will vary a lot depending where you go.

I wonder if I can get one from a salvage yard cheaper than I could rebuild

Probably, only problem is it's a crapshoot as to what you get.

Call around Monday and see what the labor is going for...........I could be completely full of crap on the price.

The Ford dealer will charge an arm and a leg. Find a good independent shop or a good mechanic who will do it on the side if you can.

Someone on another post said the Ford dealers are selling rear gears cheap now, depending on the ratio. You can get a 20% discount from on line Ford Dealers rather than buying local. Or just tell your local, what you can get them on line for and they might match the price. A long time ago, the Ford Dealer in Raleigh would give you a 20% discount if you asked. Plenty of guys on the forum have bought gears. Maybe they will chime in. Maybe rockauto.com

Check Fords prices and an independents prices. Depending on your gear selection Ford may be the most economical.

Then you'll have to do the front too, assuming you're 4WD. Doing both is some money, especially if you pay for it

I priced 3:55 and 3:73's, the 3:55 gears were $140.00 and the 3:73 gears were around $400.00. He told me Ford was practically giving away the 3:15 and 3:55 sets.
