esof to msof conversion

I have a 1997 f150 4x4 4.6l with the ever so unsatifactory esof 4x4 system. My question is, is it possible to change from this esof crap to the msof? My second question is, if i change the t-case and install a shifter and linkage will my hubs still lock when i shift into 4x4? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have locking hubs, the lock is inside the differential.

The GEM controls the front axle lock up. When it sees that the shift to 4x4 has been completed then it locks up the front axle. I think you could hot wire the GEM to see the shift but if it sees it before the shift is completed then it will grind the front axle lock collar. I will have to switch computers to look up the schematics of both systems to see. I'll get back to you.

I checked out the GEMs and as I suspected they do not use the same input for 4x4 engagement.
Solution 1: Find a GEM from a 4x4 with your options that used a MSOF system. You will still need to wire the GEM to see 4x4 so it engages the clutch in the T-case for 4x4 engagement.
Solution 2: Install a POSI-LOK system that uses a cable to engage the front axle. http://4x4posi-lok.com/
FWIW I have a POSI-LOK on my truck.
