Question Electronic Transfer Case operation

I read on this site that it is best to cycle the 4wd once a month to help prevent the electric motor from sticking. Should I use both 4hi & 4lo or is using just 4hi adequate?

How long should one stay in 4WD. I have a manual transfer case, but like to engage the 4WD once a month to make sure that everything is working. I usually only go about 100 feet or so, then switch back to 2WD. Should I drive in 4WD longer?

The longer the better. What you are really tying to do is make sure the t-case gets fully lubricated. I usually do some full lock turns (on dirt of course) to make sure the front end gets some good lubrication too. I would try to go more than 100 feet, but that's just me.

I take a detour in 4wL at 40 MPH at least once a month down a one-mile dirt road.

use both, when you switch into low, you'll hear another clunk when the transfer case switches into low. I try to use hi and low once a month also.

40 MPH @ 3,000 RPM.

33 MPH @ 2,500 RPM.
