Rear End Differences

With the help of this forum I am going to be replacing the rear end in my 99 f150 truck. I will be sticking in the same type of rear end that is currently in my truck. There is no tag but I know it is a 8.8 / 3.55 / Open Differential with ABS and disc brake
I found an S828B on the internet. When I called about it he asked what was the part number of my current one, I told him I did not have that but gave him all the sizes and ratios. I said I was looking for a rear end with all of those options.

He said even though all options are there that each rear end is different and this has me worried that if I bought the S828B model that it might not work because what is originally in my truck could be an S828A.

For peace of mind, will the different model #'s as long as they have the options that i need, be a direct bolt on with no modifications needed?

Does your truck not have the door jamb sticker? If it does, the axle code should be on that.

Are you replacing the whole rear axle or jusr the differential? If its the whole rear axle just find one with the same brakes and shock mounts but step up to a limited slip. How did yours break?

I am replacing the whole rear axle. I believe I found one out of a 2000 that will work with mine. I ended up finding a S829A with 56,000 miles on it.

My son pulled out in front of a car and was hit at the passenger rear wheel. It broke the axle shaft at the C-clip location. So I attempted to replace just the axle shaft but after getting a new axle shaft, it would not just slide in. The rear axle ended up being tweaked and I did not want to take a chance.

I should have the rear end in a few days.

I just want to thank everyone on this website that helped.
