2012 F150 aftermarket rear diff locker
2012 F150 aftermarket rear diff locker
Hey everyone. Ive got a 2012 F150 4wd w/ the ecoboost motor and 3.31 gears. This is my company truck and when we ordered these things we thought it was "standard" for it to come w/ limited-slip or a locking diff when you ordered a 4wd - as we have many 10' & 11' models that all have one or the other instead of "open rear". But it is what it is and we've learned our lesson, however we are wanting/needing to install lockers in the trucks. We're hoping a Detroit can be put in on these, they seem to be the most trusted anyway. Must be a "auto-locking" set up (no air activated) and reliability is another main focus, as these trucks will have close to 200k miles on them in 3 years when we trade again. Half the miles will be highway, the other half is muddy turnrows. Any help would be great!! -LBM
Detroit makes one that will fit it, however I don't remember whether its the Detroit "Locker" or the Detroit "Tru-Track". Everyone tells me I would love the Detroit setup the best for when I'm on the farms, but would hate it on the highway. Jackson Powertrain specializes in this stuff and is a certified Detroit dealer and installer, they said I should go with a American Posi locker. Its engagement is basically like how the factory locking diff setup is on the 07-11 chevy half-tons Z71 (which is a GL80 unit). I just got rid of a 09 Z71 and loved the setup it had, which was about the only thing i did like about that truck. Thanks for the help.
Sorry lbm06, I do not always get to read the threads. I do not know why everyone is afraid of the Detroit Locker (maybe its to bad a$$??). But, from a person that has had 3 different vehicles with Detroit Lockers and 1 with a Detroit Trutrac. I see no issues at all running a full locker in a full sized truck. Yes you will have tire churping and small wet weather traction issues (ie yes both tire turn as the same time no matter what), but what you do get is a locker that does not fail, works with a tire off the ground, not to pricey. Trutrac is good too until you get a tire off the ground then its as good as an open.
