4.88 Install - Help!

Well I decided to tackle regearing my 2004 9.75" rear diff today but got a little hung up. The 4.88 ring gear is much thicker than the stock 3.73 and won't allow the pin to slide back in the carrier that holds the axles in place. I read on another thread in the "How-To" section that you can grind down one tooth to allow the pin to slide in but I really dont want to do that unless absolutely necessary. Is this the way everyone does it? Please share your expreiences or thoughts. Thanks

its only like a 1/8 of a inch that you need to grind, if that.
