Changed the Milk out my front Diff!

So I did this a little while back at about 73k miles, thought this would maybe entice some of you offroad guys to check the fluid in your diffs, especially the front. My rear diff fluid looked great so I left it alone, the front was another story. I drained it to find a bucket full of milk! Glad I checked it.

Here is a few pics of the milk, cleaned diff cover, new oil, and sealant I applied to the cover before reinstalling it.

I don't like sealing things twice

And new gear oil!

Good thing you checked it could have been bad down the road.

Yes the reason the fluid was so bad is a result of it going underwater while offroading. I knew it would happen as a result of the water, kind of what sparked me to go ahead and check it.

Ill check out the breather hose, I have never checked it out before. Thanks!

ive been in water above the axles and i havent gotten water in there. so if your seals arent leaking then that is the only place i can think of.

its on the passenger side of the pumpkin next to the vacuum actuator.

No leaking seals so it must be the breather, thanks for the info!

it doesn't have to be the breather. The axle seals are designed to keep fluid (gear oil) in. They are not designed to keep fluid (water) out.

Ya i knew the front being submerged would leak water in, after I read that is why I decided to check it. I still have never checked out the breather before though just to make sure.

The front has been under many times so I imagine if it was the breather it would be way worse!! lol
