Grinding noise in Front End

I have a 2005 FX4. I have a grinding noise in the front end while I was traveling straight. It sounded almost like the transfer case was trying to engage, but the sound was more towards the front. Any Ideas? thanks

You most likely have IWE issues.

Ok thanks a ton. This will be very helpful. Is this a very common issue on these vehicles?

This is more like a high pitched squeal. Very Intermittent as well.

I am leaning toward it being an IWE issue from what I have read.
