rear differential fluid capacity
rear differential fluid capacity
New to the forum and have searched threads going back several years on this topic but still puzzled with my situation. '00 F-150 4wd, 4.6, manual 5 sp., rear axle code 19, 10 bolt pattern on cover. From what I've gathered on this and other sites I have a 8.8 axle. My question is my owner's manual says the axle holds 5.5 pints of fluid, that's a bit less than three pints, but in filling it after replacing the axle seals I've added 4 quarts (8 pints) and its still not up to the fill plug. Have I overfilled it or am I missing something? The manual says it should be between 1/4 to 9/16ths below the level of the plug so since mine is still below the plug am I okay or should I remove that extra qt.
