Cracked 9.75

And I thought the 9.75s were indestructible. Well I was wrong! I just pulled off the diff cover and Voilą! I cracked the carrier. I guess it doesn't like 440 ft/lbs all at once. I'll post pics after I am done crying in my soup.

welcome to the club.

10.5 rear, or just a locker for more girth?

For now it looks like a scrap yard replacement and rebuild the broken one with a locker when $$$ is available. Unfortunately it looks like tranny #5 is on its last legs. Unless the noise from the broken diff was finding its way to the tranny......

the broken diff makes one hell of a noise and vibe. mine sounded like a fat kid screaming "NOM NOM NOM" in the back seat.

See if you can slam in a used LS carrier and get by that way?

The metal flake soup might have taken out the wheel bearings. I have to look at that next. I found a scrap yard rear axle for $450.00 just 30 miles across the river in Michigan.

My good friend Neal the HP freak just dropped off a 9.75 he had lying around. The Axle tube is bent but the diff carrier and ring & pinion ore almost brand new. Thanks a million Neal.

Meh, he's blown, he may as well stick with a locker to go with that 4x4 option

I have to say you do some mighty fine work there. I'm still trying to figure out what that poor little carrier did to you to make you so mad you had to destroy it. Hopefully the next set up will work for you. How many miles on that rearend being supercharged?

Tim
