mysterious rear end noises
mysterious rear end noises
I have a 2006 F150 SuperCrew HD. I pull a trailer most every day of the week, either a cattle trailer, car trailer, or something else. I started to hear a rear end noise about 5,000 miles ago, sounding like something was rubbing when I turned a corner or after I backed up. Talked to a local gearhead, and he suggested that I had a posi rear end on my truck, to check the clutches in the rear end.
Long story short, the truck is at the dealership getting a new rear end in it. The clutches went out, took the rest of the insides of the third member with it. Save for the axles ( I upgraded them to a heavier duty when I bought it two years ago) I have had two motors, a rear end, and a tranny. None of this was caused by the fact that I pull a trailer...I am never overweight- Cant afford the DOT tickets!!! I know that there are alot of guys going to say to upgrade to the SuperDuty, but keep this in mind....I had a 2004 SuperCrew Lariat and did the same work with it. I just wanted to upgrade a couple years and alot less miles when i got this one in 2009.
I guess what I am trying to say is keep an eye on the rear end fellas...kinda gotta have them in good shape to have the fun we have with them!!! Keep the shiny side up and loud pipes save lives!!!
