What Gears

So I'm planning on doing a 4" Rancho lift with 35's and even though alot of people on here with that setup still have there stock gears and dont have a problem, Ive also been told I should put in 456's to avoid trans problems and lag. I do have an Edge which I plan to get custom tunes for to help. That said what is a good brand of gears to get, where is a good place to get them, and what exactly should I be buying except for the Ring and Pinon gears(front and back of course its a 4x4). Also, should I expect to have alot higher rpms on the highway with the 456's. Thanks for any advice.

What gears do you have now?

Thread jack: I got 3.73s and 37s. I need to regear, but the truck isnt a dog. What are the best gears to get?

glc 01-14-2011 08:39 AM

With 37's you should get 4.88's.

I knew that, was wondering motive, yukon etc....

I didnt make myself really clear in the question lol

Yukon seems to be the best out there for our trucks. Your going to want a master install kit as well. Your rpm's won't be bad, higher yes but with 35's not bad. I'll be running 4.56 with my 33" tires once my s/c goes on if that helps. I've heard randy ring and pinion is a decent place and one or two other places, try search it on the forum I know its been discussed where to buy them, unless someone else chimes in.

Oh diffsonly was another one I think

Motives aren't bad, but they do have a tendency to "sing". But if you've got a loud exhaust or aggressive tires, you will hardly hear them.

I was going to suggest motives to him for the price since its 4wd but he said 'best' so I suggested the Yukons.

Yeah I have 373's stock. I think I might do the lift and tires and see how it is first. What is the Master install kit. I only hacve 30,000 on the truck, so I'm not sure I need that kit also.

i would suggest 4.56's for the 35's.

wayne at diffsonly.com has great prices on yukons.

BLFX4K 01-15-2011 05:11 PM

get the yukons while its cheap! prices are expected to go up

gtdude 01-17-2011 02:48 AM

anyone got a price for the yukons 4.56 for a 4x4? my searching has found many people suggesting diffsonly but im not sure exactly what im looking for.

BLFX4K 01-17-2011 08:15 AM

the yukons will generally run you 300 JUST for the R&P

I was more than happy with waynes quote for both the R&P AND master install kit for the rear of my 4.56
