Rear Dif Setup ?

How many different settings are their when you set up a rearend?
Here's what I know, what am I missing? Trying ot decide if I want to try this myself.

1. You have to set the pinion crush washer at about 15 inch lbs
2. You set backlash by adjusting the carrier left or right
3. You have to setup up the clutch pack to the proper thickness or a little thicker.

What I don't know:
Is there any shimming required between the carrier and the housing?
What adjustment sets up contact pattern?

Will this kit give me all the shims I need:

I highly recommend Accuautoparts.com. I recently bought front and rear gears and install kits. They threw in a free t-shirt and installation DVD.
The crush sleeve is actually torqued to about 200 or more ft lbs. It's the pinion bearing preload that is set to around 15 in. lbs. To obtain a correct contact pattern, you have to adjust both the pinion depth and the backlash. The pinion depth is adjusted by changing the shim between the pinion gear and inner pinion bearing. The backlash is adjusted by adding or removing shims between the carrier and the housing. I think it's possible to do a ring and pinion change yourself, but I would watch an instructional video a few times first.
