Wheres the other end go?

My first guess is going to be axle breather, just not sitting where it should be. It appears you have an earlier model 97 or 98, the breather will be a small pipe fitting piece on top of the axle tube just to the right of your picture. See if you have a rubber line on that, if not see if this line you do see goes to the fender well area.

But this looks like the drivers side now that I rubbed my eyes. Theres a few larger lines like this up high on your intake plenum. make sure your EVAP line is intact, it goes to a small black cylinder with a cap looking thing on the fire wall.

ah 07, maybe thats why I didnt spot the fitting for the breather where it has been on the 99-03's.

Are you positive you dont have a breather fitting? Last I checked every axle has one, I've been wrong before though!

ziptied and kinked? You first owner?

Location of the line leads me to believe its a breather tube thats been pulled off the breather valve. if it terminates somewhere towards a wheel/ fender I would venture breather tube as a more viable suggestion yet.

I no longer have a 8.8 IFS truck and have never had a 04+ body style, gonna need someone who has one to point you exactly where to go.

i just looked on my trucks its a breather and it does connect to the front diff axle housing...the fitting that connects to it screws into the differential...looks like the fitting may have been lose take a close look on the top of the diff stick your head under there the fitting may have come lose and fell off
