Question FWD F150?

Why don't they make 2WD trucks FWD instead of RWD for improved traction?
The traction on my truck just stinks
Its real bad in the rain
FWD vehicles don't seem to have this problem.

My first vehicle was a front wheel drive "truck". It sucked and I swore off front wheel drive and chrysler products at the same time. I should've known there was a reason they only made them for 3 years. It was terrible in the snow, the back end would still kick out some on corners and I don't like the way FWD handles in snow. Can any of you guess what model of 2.2L 4-bangers it was?

Trucks were designed to work, looking good is just an added benefit. If you are towing or hauling you have excellent traction. If you will throw some weight in the bed of your truck and drive around with it all of the time when you are not hauling something already it will improve your traction and handling enormously(it will also give you better gas mileage on the highway if you have a little weight in the back). I promise!

My grandfather had an older F150 4x4 that he actually ran in FWD thru the transfer case. The reason he did is because the rear end went out. It was a beater and he only used it for hauling dirt and gravel on his property.

Cool

Hey, I remember them old plymouth/Dodge Rampages from the early 80's. They were actually a Omni/Horizon with a truck bed. VW also had a truck version of the rabbit. talk about powerhouses---------you might be able to haul a sack of groceries in it!!!!

Trucks are meant to be work vehicles like MJVAUGHAN said. Some how, many of us decided it'll be cool to drive them around even when we're not hauling our toys or work material in back. =-)

Put some sand bags in the back or some toys. I've noticed my truck has a nicer ride when it's loaded.

I never been in a FWD that had a decent turning radius. If you want to get traction in the rain, easy up on the gas. Or drop to a 4.6 or 4.2 and get a 5 spd and start off in 2nd. If u dont try to put the gas through the floor it is possible to start in rain and not spin all the time.

clear corner lenses,brush guard, blackouts,
edlebrock shocks, hypertech, K&N induction system,KC highlighters,
bed xtender, BOSE audio or infinity gold, disc changer,
side steps, dixie horn, white faaced gauges, and those small fender flares some 4x4's have,
matching boddy color of course, and some of those door guards, ventshade visors, power pulleys, that is all
i can think of right now

Ah Yes, the infamous you have to have 4wd in the snow, you couldn't get anywhere, blah, blah, blah... It just ain't true folks! Certainly there are some cases where we MAY become stuck, but snow isn't really that tough of an opponent. As the proud owner of a 2wd, non LS rear end, I can truly say that no, 4wd is not a necessity for getting around in the snow. About 280 lbs of sand and a set of tires with a little more agressive tread than passeneger car tires, and you really won't need to worry about snow too much. As for ice, well that's another story. You may choose a 4x4 and I know that you all have your reasons for it, but it is by all means NOT necessary to deal with just snow.

As far as a FWD truck, go get yourself a minivan if that's what you want.

Off soapbox...

Max and JJ you're right the infamous Rampage 2.2. Man, what a POS but it was perfect for a first car. Replaced just about everything but the engine itself.

It was actually a charger / turismo that had a bed, a little bigger than the omni / horizon but not any better quality. It even had an ashtray in the back of the center console, but only had two seats.
I also remember the VW version a guy in town had a diesel one. It said VOLKSWAGEN across the tailgate.

I don't like FWD because once you break traction trying to move, you lose your steering capability. Not to mention the added cost in replacing CV joints and struts. Both of these items are more expensive than U joints and shocks.

Some people prefer FWD and that's OK, we live in a diverse world. These thoughts belong to me.
