front end humming

I have had a humming noise coming from the front end of my 2003 F150 Supercrew 4x4. I was away for four months in Europe and when I came home I noticed it. Now I am not sure if it was there prior to my departure and I have just forgotten it or it is new. So, I am Not sure what it is.

I can tell you this:

1. I have just recently had the front brakes (new rotors and pads) done.

2. It it not the tires and cannot be heard any better from the outside, it seems to be heard better inside the truck.

3. It gets louder when I turn

4. definetly happens in drive, but I am not sure if it happens in neutral, i will try that tonight and let you know.

5. I drive it a lot

6. it has 136,000 miles on it.

7. recent transmission service done, besides shifting does not affect the noise.

8. it is not the 4x4 system

So, what else rotates in the front that could be causing a humming noise that is heard better inside the cab.

Thanks alot and if there are any questions to help narrow it down, just ask.

Bad CV's usually click, not hum. Wheel bearings can hum. Check the lube in the front axle.

definitely sounds like a bad wheel bearing with it getting louder when turning. a good test to figure out which one is bad is if you turn to the right and it gets louder its going to be the left front. if you turn to the left and it gets louder than it is the right front. this tests works 99% of the time. good luck
