Gears first???

I'm kicking around a couple of different upgrades for my 99 f150 4x4. I'll be purchasing some new tires and wheels in a couple of months. I had thought about purchasing a Gryphon CTS programmer or upgrading gears from my current 3.55 to maybe some 4.10's, as I plant to go up a few tire sizes. I really don't have enough $$ to do all 3, and from what I've read, the gains from the programmer on the 99 f150 4.6L are pretty modest. That makes it hard for me to justify getting the programmer, as I feel that I would be better off putting that money toward the gears. My question is would it be OK to get the gears first, and then down the road get a programmer, or will I need the programmer when I make the gear change??

Thanks,
JOey

if you get the gears first you speedo will be off even if the tire size is right for the gears. like on the way home from getting my gears done (4.88's with 38's) i would be going like 75 on the highway and my speedo would say 90+. so your speedo could be off by quit a bit untill you get a programmer to fix it. or you can just get your speedo reflashed by ford for the larger tires and gears in the mean time. i think its around $100 for that.

The best way to do it is to plan all your mods for the same time. If you can't afford to do it all at once, then save up. If you can't do that, then buy the parts as you can afford them, save them in your garage until you have all your parts, then install all at once.

Well maybe I should just go with the older Edge Evolution rather than the CTS.. Just not convinced yet on paying $600 for one, when it seems like only modest gains on a 99. I guess it does have other benefits though. Just seems like there are other things that I could spend $600 that would be more beneficial. Thoughts??
