Gear install

Well I'm thinking about getting gears, probly some 4.88's or 4.56's. i don't think i'll be doing this mod on my own. lol I don't feel that adventurous just yet lol

Anyway, there is a place down from the house that, if i provide the gears, $400 bucks. They will do the install for $500. I rly honestly think thats a good price isn't it? for a 4wd. Thats gotta be pretty cheap. They are reputable too, its not like a hole in the wall place. it's really the only good 4wd place around herep, they do a ton of business.

The reason i ask is bc the last place i asked about regearing, its been awhile, my memory sucks!! But i think if i provided the gears they still wanted like $1000-1200 i think....maybe.

I would def. recommend getting gears done. I dont see a place doing it for $500 if you give them gears. I can see them charging maybe 400 per axle though. If you can get them to install both sets for $500 then I say jump on it.

That's a good price. I found someone locally willing to do mine for around $200 per axle as well who is experienced with ring and pinion.
Check out diffsonly.com for ring and pinion, install kits, etc. I saved over $400 compared to ringpinion.com prices, on the stuff I just ordered.

FYI, for a 97 you really should be using full master install kits as well, if not a master overhaul for the rear axle.

Yeah 250 per axle. You have 4.56 right? How do you like them with 35's compared with stock gears stock tire size?

I was just wondering about that brand bc i've heard of some problems but didn't kno which brands were not as good.

I found some motive gears (front &rear) for $300. I'll have to buy a few other things...install kit, gear oil, permatex, etc. plus 500 install. Hoping i'll be able to squeeze in under 900 bucks. I have heard motive gears are good, so thats what i'm planning on.

I'm glad you said "ALOT", thats good!!! lol Thanks

With 4.56's and 35's, do you have more power than when you had stock gears and stock tires?

Trying to decide between thoseand 488's. I might eventually put a BL on it and stuff 37's but i don't kno. I think at that point i'd rather have 488's over 456's

if thats an option later on i would go ahead and do 4.88's. you dont want to go 4.56 and later do 37's... you might regret it.
