accelerator stuck while driving??
accelerator stuck while driving??
Hi new to the forum, my 2002 f-150 did this before, but hadn't for a long time.
but i was driving home from work, i stopped at a stop sign, and then as i accelerated through the intersection my pedal stayed down and kept reving.
just wondering what would make this happen?
thanks

Hello and welcome. Sorry to hear that, but you may look into your TPS sensor or your Throttle cable. I had both go on my 1997 5Spd 4.2 about two to three years ago. Turned out water had crept into the sensor sticking the plates 1/2 to 3/4 open and the cable itself was beginning to drag and stiffen. Easy way to test the cable is disconnect it from the throttle body and pull and push it by hand, should be smooth and relatively loose feeling. If it feels like a tough spot or some drag or restriction when you pull it then this may quite easily be your culprit. When I did mine it was 65 dollars through ford, but thats canadian and a few years ago. If not then i think it takes two small Torq tip screws to remove the TPS. When you do this there is a "keyed" slot in side that is used for electronic output (percentage open/close). If there appears to be any rust or moisture in that area, you may want to replace the sensor as that causes corrosion and failure with that sensor as well. Hope this helps and best of luck.
