I have a 97 f150 4.6 4x4 my rear end went out and it had 3.55 gears in it i bought a rear end out of a 97 f150 4.6 2wd and put it in now my speedometer is like 15 mph slower than im actually going. does the rear end i got now have 3.08s? if so can i just swap pinions?

 

yes you can change the gears they are both 8.8's

make sure not to use 4x4 if the ratios arent the same.

 

ya i took the front driveshaft out but can i just swap pinion gears?

 

you would have to swap the ring and pinion.

what went out on your old axle?

 

i bought the truck with a bad rear end for 1500 bucks and i swapped it and pulled the old one apart and 2 of the inner axle bearings were wasted and the spider gears were junk
