Yes you will get better flex from a rad arm coil setup. But in my expierence you will get just enough from a leaf spring setup.

HERE DO THIS
Go out and look where your trucks cab and bed meet. That spot will touch under extreme flex. Ive had this happen a few times and i havent done anything neer pushin the limits.

with the axle size/ strength and tire size you would be just fine with a SAS Leaf sprung setup. Ive only seen 2 of these 97-03 F150's SAS'd with rad arms and coil springs. The frames on these trucks are extremely wierd to work with so not sure how hard it would be to get everything to line up properly, leaf sprung will be alot easier and i believe will give you plenty of flex before meeting the body to the bed.

Coils and Rad arms. 37's

You are definitely pushing me back towards the middle of the debate on leaf vs coil. If I do leaf will I lose turning radius or will that not be an issue if I designs and fab everything up correctly.

dont forget that he will not be able to do a leaf spring setup with the 79 axle. the radius arm wedges are cast on and there is no axle tube under it

I've personally seen one 97-03 SAS'ed on coils. I wasn't able to get close enough to it to get a good look at it. As Trimble said, you can get good flex with leaves, and that is the easiest way to SAS the odd frame on these trucks.

While my truck is still IFS up front, I have arched overload leaf springs in the rear, and have gotten good flex with these, if i can find the pic i will post it.

No loss in turning radius with a 31.5" perch width axle. The 36.5" and 37.75" depend on the tire and rim offset you are running.

I strongly recommend to anyone with a coil sprung D44 considering the swap to clean it up, sell it, and buy a D60. If not for strength, do you really want to go through all of the work of the SAS to go from 1/2ton to just a better version 1/2ton?

Yeah doesnt mean anything. shops can get special deals from using certian brands. Ford Racing makes quality gears.

Just like if you go into 4wheelparts to order anything, they will push the procomp line.

I will only warranty aftermarket Yukon or Precision Gear, or OEM gears such as AAM, Ford, etc. However, I will install whatever garbage you wish.
