rear tags
rear tags
i've got to put a new rear in my f150 and it's cheaper to get a junkyard rear than rebuilding but i have a question about the axle tags. mine is 829a but when they delivered the new one the tag is an 828a. what's the difference? if the ratios are the same shouldn't this one work?
is that an 8".
if the axle came from another f150 with the same body style then it will bolt right up. i think they moved the speed sensor from the transmission to the rear end in 01, so make sure you check out the year as well.
as long as you stay in those parameters, everything should work. no idea what the numbers you posted mean.

chief, there's a tag on all rears that has an axle code. mine is an 8.8 with 3.55ls with a 829a tag. i've seen 4 or 5 different tag #'s for my specific model, all with the same ratios. why? i don't know. its the weekend, so i can't call the recycler until mon. they should have an interchange book to tell me.just thought maybe some one might know here. btw, anti lock sensor is on the rear and its a 99 f150 i bought new.
i know there's a tag on the rear and what's on it. usually most people see something like 8.8 3L55 for an 8.8 3.55 ls. i know the other numbers are on there but i can't tell you what they mean and how they correspond with one another.
by speed sensor i meant the actual sensor that monitors the speed of the vehicle. again, i'm not sure when they moved it from the transmission to the rear end. that's really all you need to watch out for is speedo compatibility.
---EDIT--
from what i've been able to find your new axle is non-locking. other than that i don't think there is a difference.
