Question Ordering new gears for 4x4 - what sizes?

Hi, folks...

I'd like to switch from 3.55 gears to 4.10 gears. I've read (on this board and elsewhere) that the front diff. gears must be a fraction lower (i.e. R=4.10 F=4.11). Is this true? And, must I be very careful when ordering to make sure the shop orders a properly matched set?

Any horror stories? (I'm bored at the moment...)

TomKenny,

I've heard the same thing. It was a long time ago at a mud sling, I believe. I can't for the life of me rationalize why you would want your front wheels turning at a different speed than your back wheels. I don't know for a fact the mud slingers were actually using different ratios. If I remember correctly, the ratios were reversed from what you stated (4.10's in front/4.11's in rear for example). The theory being, the front turn slightly faster than the rear to help keep the vehicle straight. They may very well have that type of arrangement. I don't think it would be very practical for our purposes though.

I just received a set of 4.10's (front and rear) for my truck. I ordered them from Reider Racing. These are made by Precision Gear. I'm still searching for someone I trust, or at least feel comfortable with, to do the install. If anyone can make a reccomendation for a first class differential guy anywhere close to my area, I'm all ears!

Red BullSr,

I have 8.8's front and rear. I believe Reider Racing has what you're looking for. www.reiderracing.com. They have about as good a price on quality gear sets as anybody.

Question

Has anyone tried 4.30 gears with 35" tires?
