Thumbs down 4x4 help

hello this is my first thread and i wanted to ask a question about my 4 wheel drive. I have a 2005 ford f150 xlt 4x4 with a 4.6l motor. I just bought the truck with 134000 miles on it. Every time i put it in 4 wheel low it is real delayed like i have to give it 3/4 gas before anything happens, then it jerks you a little and goes. 4 wheel high is a little delayed but not as bad. If you have any idea on what is wrong please let me know. Thanks

What transmission do you have? My 06 XLT has a manual shift for the 4x4. If assuming you have the automatic in the truck, truck needs to be moving about 5mph or less, put the tranny in neutral, and then shift from 4x4 hi to 4x4 lo. Not sure if that will help.

Have you had a shift 4x4 before?
The way it works is a pin is engaged into
the transfer case that locks the gears.
To activate the pin you need either
vacuum or electric. Since the hole that
lines up with the pin is spinning with the
front wheels there will be a delay in when the
pin falls into the hole.
Probably not a good idea to gunn it when you
shift but to take it slow until the pin engages.

I've always been told with electronic 4x4 that you need to be in N with stopped when going to 4low. Then gently click into gear and roll fwd. It will lock right in and be ready to rock. At least thats how my Chevy and now my Ford has been.

Yeah 4low you have to be stopped and in Neutral to beable to engage it. Usually if I have to put it in 4low I'm already stuck as ***** so its no big deal lol and then just crawl right out the hole

Read this thread.....
The truck may have had a vacuum leak in the IWE system (maybe it has been fixed, maybe not). If it did have one, there's a chance your hub gears may be worn. Hopefully not.
Good Luck, MB
