Changing front and rear diff. fluids...What brands?

Alright. If I've read everything right i'll need about 4 quarts of 75W140 for the rear and 3 quarts of 75W90 for the front. My tag on my axle doesn't say LS, but.. I've seen both rear tires spin so I'm guessing it'd be safe just to go ahead and add the LS additive?

Main question is, are there any other places or brands to find this stuff where its not $20 a quart? With 4 quarts in the back and 3 in the front along w/ the additive thats about $150. And well, if i don't have to shelf out that much I certainly don't want to.

I also have a squeak coming from my rear-end, assuming its my universal joints since it gets progessively faster with the speed of the truck. Should I just go ahead and change them out, or could I grease them up and be fine?

Actually, you may not need expensive stuff.

Differential, Front .....GL-5
All Temps......80W-90

Standard Differential, Rear Dana Axle EX 80.....GL-5
All Temps......80W-90

Controlled Slip Differential, Rear Dana Axle EX 80.....GL-5*[2]
All Temps......80W-90

Controlled Slip Differential, Rear Ford & Dana 80.....GL-5*[2][3]
All Temps......75W-140

Standard Differential, Rear Ford & Dana 80.....GL-5[3]
All Temps......75W-140

2. Limited Slip Identification: Letter & number
on plate on door lock pillar. (Models W/ Traction-Lok Rear
Axle Add 4 oz of friction modifier part no. C8AZ-19B546A
(EST-M2C118-A)
3. Synthetic oil is required.
Believe it or not, the SuperTech lube at Walmart is decent. If your axle takes 80W90, you don't need synthetic.

Capacities:

Differential, Front..........3.6 pints
Differential, Ford 10.25 ring gear Rear..........7.4 pints
Differential, Ford 8.8 or 9 ring gear Rear..........5.5 pints
Differential, Ford 9.75 ring gear Rear..........5.5 pints

Those are PINTS, not quarts.

The OEM U-joints are sealed. Replace them with greasables.

Thanks glc I've seen that SuperTech lube but I was a bit weary because it was from Wal-Mart and I'd never heard of the brand before. I'll just go ahead and replace the u-joints, I'm assuming they'll have greasable ones at places like AutoZone?

About the table, how do you know which one applies to your axle? I know on my rear axle tag it reads 75W140, but I havn't had a chance to check out the front.

What engine do you have and what's the axle code on the door sticker?

The front will take cheap 80W90, 2 quarts.

'97 4.6 with the 8.8. If I read it correctly, I believe the axle code is 19.

That is non-limited slip. You probably have a Ford axle - here's a pic:

In that case, you do need the synthetic 75W140, but no modifier. 3 quarts.
