Have questions and need educated help!

OK...I have a 2004 FX4 exCab
-5.4
-373 gears
-51k

The only mods on the truck are Terra grappler's and 3 inch exhaust. After the 34 inch tires my towing went to crap and I believe my clutch packs are shot for the third time. I do not have a warrenty anymore and I do not want another truck payment. My question is...What is my best option for this truck?

- fix it to stock and hope the clutch packs hold up?
- fix it and trade it in and pay 5 more years of payments?
- put different gears in, and if so which ones?
- put a diff locker in, and if so which one?
- put both gears and a diff locker in?
- or any other ideas anyone might have

Put 4.56's with a locker in it. You also have to change the front gears.

i'd go 4.56 gears with a tru-trac. it's a limited slip type differential but will give better power distribution on the straights and still unlock on the turns.

no reason to trade the truck in. i really think you'll be satisfied with just the gear swap but if you've got the money go ahead and get a new diff in there while everything is open.

I got a quote on the 4.56 gears and the tru trac today....rough estimate is 2500 installed. Is this high?

hnestly you should be more around the 2k range but depends on shop time and laor rates.

Tell them you will do 2k see what they say.

There should be no labor charge for the limited slip to be put in since everything is out anyway
