rear driveshaft shredded

I have an 05 F150 Supercrew. went to take off form a stop sign this weekend not hard just regular acceleration. Thats when I shook the truck info center said engine failsafe activated and shut the truck off. Got out it was the rear driveshaft at the front of it it seperated from the u joints it was just the hollow drive shaft laying on the ground and with about a 10 inch long tear in it. Never seen anything like it wondering if this might be more than just the driveshaft u joints seem tight. Atleast ford ESP will cover it any comments or ideas please let me know.

Thanks
Dave

Wait..... so the slip yoke pulled out of the transmission (or t-case if 4x4 ) ??

Or the other end near the rear axle ? You have any pics ? Pics might let us see what failed.

You have a scanner or anything ? Can you pull DTC's ? (trouble codes)
If the motor went into failsafe, should have some codes to read. Might tell you if something else is going on, which I would assume is the case.

from his description i would say the front of the driveshaft is what failed. so it would have to be something from the rear u-joint back.

anyone else notice the amount of bad u-joint posts coming in on the NBS trucks? might just be something to look into.

engine fail safe went in because the transmission output speed was grossly different then the wheels speed sensor on the axle.

we need pics tho

It sounds to me like the u-joint was alright, but the tube failed somewhere around where it is welded to the u-joint flange. I'd be pissed.

sorry, no pics tried to upload from my cell but I am having problems with it. It was the front of the rear drive shaft it looked like the weld broke and when I tapped the gas it must have been almost there and when it turned the shaft it shredded it. Crazy I was pissed and dealership in Cumming Ga where I broke down sucked. Bunch of idiots. Never use billy howell ford!!! I will try to send pics to my bros phone see if I can get it that way, girlfriends camera was dead or would have good pics. They were supposed to save me the shaft but when she picked it up and brought it back to NC to me no shaft!!
