OIL MAN - Kevin: Thank you for the information on the Mag-Hytec differential cover. My new truck was delivered to me with the differential oil approximately 3/4 quart low; thus, I had to purchase a quart of Ford hypoid oil at $23.56 per quart.( Ford part # F1TZ-19580-B) The 2000 model vehicles require this synthetic 75W140 oil. Adding the oil did not correct the whine. I plan to look at Mag-Hytec web site this evening. Willie

Willie,
Sorry you had to pay so much for the dealer 75w140 synthetic ($23.56 Quart) The LE oil form Mag-Hytec is only $19.50 per quart and is lots better quality.

Sincerely, Kevin

*****, my 2000 F150 XLT also has some Rearend gear noise. It also has the 3:55 ratio gears.Ford says that this is normal, I think they have a problem with their gear sets. I had a '99 f150 XLT with the 3:08 ratio gears that had no noise at all. My 2000 only has 700 miles on it, if it gets any worse I'm going to make them do something about it. Sometimes it takes enough people to complain about this to get something done about it.

JJ2000XLT: Sorry to hear you also have a differential whine in your new truck. I had a F 250 prior to my present truck which had absolutely no rear end noise. Will let you know if and when the local dealer corrects my problem. Best regards, Willie

ENOK: Thanks for your reply. Have you had a Ford dealership look into the differential problem? If so, were they able to determine the cause? Best regards, Willie

Willie,
could you please contact me. Also, all other guys who have my same problem please contact me. I have a whine in my differential axel as well. I posted on this site a few days ago to see if I was alone with my problem and found i was not. I'm going through a big hassle with my dealer--he's a real jerk. The ford dispute settlement board is taking my case. I would like anyone who has had this differential whine and had ford do something about it or even anyone who ford has stated to that this differential whine is not normal and not a characteristic of all fords, as it obviously is not, contact me. Please make a reply to my post or email me (kitty2@penn.com). Thank you.

I appreciate all the help you can give. This has been a very frustrating experience. I am a man in my sixties with diabetes and this stress does not help.

Hey Homer sorry you having trouble with you truck. At around 1K I too started hearing a "whine" not bad just annoying. I went to my dealers service manager and took him for a ride he heard the noise and agreed that it was not normal. I left the truck for the day they went over it from top to bottom and could not find its origin. The servce manager asked me to drive it for a few thousand miles to let the gears seat better and bring it back if it continued. After about 6k the whine seems to be decreasing or else I'm just getting used to it anyway I will take it back before 10k just to have him check it again. Try another dealer (not all are jerks) and good luck.

Unhappy

I have this whine since about 45k miles.
I have 59k right now.
It is speed dependend - changes pitch. Nobody
could pinpoint it so far. Some blame tires - but I don't believe it.
In gear or out, gas or without - still there.
I got me a noisy exhaust so I don't hear it as much. 97 ext. cab Lariat

Kingwc,
Thanks for your message and am glad your differential whine is correcting itself. I have cured the differential whine in my truck by the dealer replacing two complete rear ends. After the second rear end, Ford decided to replace the truck with a 2001 model. Best regards, Willie

Jank,
Thanks for your message I have finally found relief for the whine in my differential. Two complete rear ends have been replaced in my truck and now the Florida Lemon Law has taken effect and I am getting a 2001 replacement. Best regards, Willie

Jank: Thanks for your message. In answer to your questions; I am of thr opinion that the dealer must initate and research the cause of your differentaial problem. I would ask to discuss the problem with the service manager. If no satisfaction comes from him I would write Ford Motor Company, Customer Relationship Center, 16800 Executive Plaza Drive, Dearborn, Michigan 48121. Willie
