I have no idea

alright I have a problem my truck is a 06 screw 5.4 v8 64,000 miles. okay I went mudding a few weeks back and it wasn't really even mudding I had to go back into a mud hole to pull my buddies GMC out that he got stuck. We got him out, I had to put the truck into four wheel drive needless to say. down to the problem i am having my truck is making a weird grinding noise not all the time when it makes this noise i'll slow down almost to a stop and it'll stop and the tranny will shift hard and the noise will stop. I don't know what it is or if it is a 4 wheel drive problem or if it is a tranny problem. anyone ever had this problem and know how to fix it. this is my daily driver so i need to get it back on the road soon.

When I had new gears installed in my 2wd it made that noise when the shim got eaten. Even time I slowed down to a stop it would make a groaning noise then catch with a sudden jerk at the end. Probably a long shot but can you pinpoint where it's coming from?

Put it back in 4wd, drive about 10 feet, then put it back in 2wd.
