front shaft

how common is it for a u joint in the front shaft to cause a vibration in a awd expy? I'm assuming just the same as a bad one in the rear shaft. is this correct or should i be looking at something else? it kind of bounces around 40 and then gets worse at 55 or above. I've had the truck at 3 different garages and the ford dealer is the only one that said possibly ujoints in the front shaft since the rear joints are already changed. thanks, Clint

they aren't humping your leg for extra dough, they are actually telling you the truth. change out the front driveshaft's u-joints, and go from there.

ok, i'll take that as a "yes it can" it's just that i've had 3 other 4wd trucks and in 15 yrs I've never had a u joint go bad on the front shaft. it's always been on the back. thanks, Clint

yeah, but the thing is, AWD and 4WD are not the same. AWD is full-time, and most 4WD systems, including most Ford trucks are part-time.

Did they even check the u-joints? Or was it just one of those "over the counter" free consults? Wheel balance?
