2wd tru trac

so i had to sell my 95 f140 4wd and now i only have my 2wd 06 and one seriously mean gravel driveway. with only 1wd in the snow i dont stand a chance. I have some good AT tires that will get me through most of it but when its late in the winter the driveway gets nasty. most of the time i only need to move a few inches to get unstuck. i have heard good things about the tru trac from people with 4wd but not 2wd. how will a tru trac handle on road in the snow? I know a locker on ice is a death trap but what about the tru trac? i guess i dont understand how a geared lsd will actually slip.

will a tru trac get me unstuck if one wheel is one ice with no traction at all or does it require some traction to grab? My truck is a 5 speed 4.2L and i have no off road experience what so ever. i have also been thinking about an auburn rear end electric locker that is a regular lsd when off and full lock when on. it costs almost double the tru trac and i fear it is over kill. any help would be great.

I just had one installed in my 01' Screw 2wd. I think it works better than the factory limited slip. It's more expensive than the factory set-up but I have no complaints so far.

I have a True Trac in my '08 Screw 4X4. I live in Michigan, so we get quite a bit of snow. I can tell you, it is only when I am seriously stuck that I even have to use my 4X4. I really enjoy my True Trac.

how often do you get seriously stuck?

my question i guess is how much more benificial would a full electric locker be compared to a true trac?

I don't really allow myself to get stuck. I just put it in 4X4 when I feel I am not getting adequate traction in 2X4. An e-locker is probably better overall, but the unit itself is a few hundred bucks more. I am thinking about a True Trac or e-locker in the front to round things out. I went to the True Trac because 80% of my driving is highway, the only off roading I do is when I hunt or fish and these places can cause you problems if you are the only vehicle around.

how would you expect a true trac to handle a very rough gravel driveway covered in snow? the driveway is about 400 ft with a steep incline at the end

It would probably do OK. Driving in deep snow is one of the reasons I got the True Trac.

I got it on e-bay from Ron's Machining Service. IIRC the price was in the $450-465 range. Mind you, that was September '08 and prices may be a bit higher now. However, I surfed all over and Ron's prices were very competitive with just about any other vendor, and he had them in stock.
