Gear ratio

I have a 1994 F150 4w drive truck
and the rear end is going out of it. I need to get another rear end for it so what is the best way to find out what my gear ratio is? I need to match the front drive to the back. Some say there is a tag on the rear end, that i cant find. Some say look on drivers side door for info that will have the ratio there. Some say take it apart and count the gears????????
Or is it best just to replace gears in rear end than to get a good used rear end?? Please help!!!!
