Sounds a little high. The shops I called up were quoting me anywhere from 1300 - 1500. I ended up getting a friend to do it for the price of gears + a little extra, spent about $650 to do my front and rear.

A local shop charged me $1100, was the cheapest I could find in town, but I had to pull out the front differential and the rear axle, took just the differential and the axle to the shop then they installed the gears and I had to put them back on the truck. Otherwise I was looking at hundreds of dollars more per axle. I dont know how many shops will let you do that, but that could be a alternative to save a few hundred
