I have noticed a stange noise when I am driving between 40 mphs and higher. It is more pronounced when my foot is on the gas. I have started with the most obvoius and checked tire pressure, balanced and rotated the tires. Still no fix, I am wondering if it is a bad bearing or something like a bad u joint, maybe of off balanced drive shaft. I have noticed that when I am sitting in drive with my foot on the brake I get a metalic vibration sound, like a heat shield rattling. Can not find the location though.
Any help would be great.

You just described about five different noises. Is the noise at 40 a "whine" only when you barely have your foot on the gas, and goes away when you lift? If so, guess what, ring and pinion. Yes, heat shields also make noises. Check it out further, and get back.
The noise seems to be constant but more pronounced with foot on gas, but I can still hear it at a lower level with foot off the gas.
I know heat shields cause noise I was wondering if anything else could cause a simular noise.
