'97 transfer case extension housing availability
'97 transfer case extension housing availability
We have a 1997 F150, manual transmission, 4x4 (non-electric), 4.6L V8 engine. The transfer case extension housing seal was leaking, so a new one was obtained from Ford (F4TZ-7B215-B).
The driveshaft was removed and it was found that the transfer case extension housing bushing had spun free from inside the housing itself and damaged the seal, which is what caused the leak.
A call was placed to Ford to get a replacement bushing but the bushing itself is not available - a new extension housing is needed. Unfortunately, the housing is obsolete and apparently not a single dealer in the USA has one, nor does Obsolete Ford.
Calls to other local parts suppliers have been equally unproductive, which is why I wanted to post a note here. Below is additional truck and transfer case data:
1. Borg-Warner transfer case.
2. Code stamped on the case itself is F65A-7A195-AD.
3. 6 bolts attach the extension housing to the transfer case.
4. The metal tag on one of the case bolts reads "4406-13" and "F65A-AD."
5. Cast into the extension housing is "901"; "CAV2"; "MPL" (the letters MPL are inside an oval).
6. Only 1 sensor hole in extension housing (for VSS) on drivers' side.
7. 1 small hole in flange (where housing bolts to case) for 1 wire/pigtail.
8. 1997 F-150, 4.6L V8, manual transmission, manual (non-electric) 4x4.
While awaiting a return call from a local transmission shop I wanted to post this note to see if anyone else had a similar issue with parts availability, and if yes, how that was solved (aside from junkyard hunting).
Thanks very much for reading. If any additional data is needed please let me know.

I would try to get in touch w/ Borg Warner and see if a replacement part is available directly through them, as well as what your other replacement options are. Perhaps, it may be cheaper to upgrade to the 99+ system that eliminated the VSS gear.

update: used housing with new bushing/seal located
A local transmission shop was able to locate a used Motorcraft extension housing with a new, correct bushing and new, correct seal installed. This makes sense, as I found it very hard to believe that none existed anywhere.
minimonster17, thank you very much for your reply.
