whats this thing called?
hey guys i had to get a u-joint for my rear driveshaft and i had the hardest time trying to get the right part. the a****** at napa was arguing with me telling me that the u-joint either has u bolts or straps and i kept telling him its neither one its got the thing that bolts to the yoke and all. i even took a pic for the guy and he still kept saying it had straps. we went on and on with this for nearly 45 minutes
, seriously. well i got the new u-joint, at least i think its the right one, i havent put it on yet. but just so i dont have so many problems in the future can someone tell me what this thing that bolts to the yoke is? heres a pic

the thing that really made me mad was that i went to another napa down the road just to make sure i was getting the right part and i was only in there for 3 minutes, most of which i was just talking to the guys. the guy went straight to the book and found it almost right away.

The snap ring is the clip on the end of the u-joint cup. I think he means the part that bolts on. Those are very heavy duty, and were not used on many 1/2 tons or cars. Lots of parts guys would have never seen one unless they saw parts from an old Ford truck.

sounds good to me
i know what the snap rings are. i dont know what the thing that bolts directly onto the yoke is. the u-joint connects it to the driveshaft.

i wouldnt dought it. my buddies 69 mustang has one. but i'm not sure if it was there from the factory.
I don't recall ever seeing any Mustang with one. Not saying none had them, but maybe it was a heavy duty fabricated driveshaft for the Mustang.

maybe. i'm not sure. he bought the car that way. i never had to take a driveshaft out of a ford that old so i never really paid attention to the setup.
OOPS it is called a Driveshaft Centering Socket Yoke, base part number 4866.
The Companion Flange is the part that the Driveshaft Centering Socket Yoke bolts to.
