Question Transfer Case

How much torque can the transfer case take? I have a 1999 F-150 4x4 with a 5.4 and I want to put in a Lightning engine. I plan on also changing the transmission to the Lightnings to handle the torque but can the transfer case handle all this torque?

I have often wondered this, and I haven't found a straight answer. I have even went to Borg-Warners web site to find some specifications. I know the pre 97 models came with the 1356 transfercase, these were stout. Ours have the 44-06 and should be strong. I don't think you will be putting a lighting tranny in there. The tailhouse shaft will not quite fit a transfercase. You may have to go with a 97-98 4x4 e40d and get it beefed alittle.

Maybe so. But if you want a used one out of a junkyard, it maybe easier to find a 97-98 rather than a CA emmisions in New Jersey.
