Ready for Posi!

After almost getting clobbered by Miss Daisy in her Buick today while trying to cross a busy intersection, while my back TIRE was spinning away, I decide that I need to get posi...

I was looking at differential kits on Summit Racing, and only saw one available. I was curious if anyone has done this conversion and could give me any tips or even be so kind to provide a link to a place I could buy a kit?

Also, I'm concerned with shimming the new differential. Are there any special tools involved? I come from working in a GM shop, so my experience with Ford rear ends are very limited lol with GM trucks, there's a special tool that bolts into the housing that tells you your gear deflection, and after some number crunching, you get the measurement of the shims you need. Is there a similar procedure?

Thanks!

I installed a Detroit Truetrac today and no more TIRE spinning for me. I love it so far. I can't believe that Ford didn't install a LS in my 4x4, but it has one now!

I believe that it was an option...

Why they would make it an option, I have no clue. I think it should be standard with 4x4...but they like to cut costs.

I took it to a friend's shop and let him install it while I was at work. There is nothing special about the truetrac. It installs just like any carrier would.

Yeah...I think that all 4x4's should have at least a LS in the rear.

Awesome! I'll look into the motorsport catalog, there is a Ford dealer right down the road from where I work, and I might even be able to get it discounted if I buy it through the dealership I work at.

rch10007, think you could ask the friend who installed it if there was any special tools required? I'm just real nervous about shimming it, I've only ever shimmed a GM rear and that was years ago, so I can barely remember how to do it haha
