Rear End Size And Specs?

My rear end has always been noisying and now seems to be getting worse.I have a complete rolled over truck with half the miles on it. Both trucks have a H9 axle code(3.55 L.S i believe) My 2000 Has the tag on it so I know it is for sure. The wrecked one (2001) does not have tag and look physically bigger. Does anyone know what the difference would be? And is it possible to swap?Thanx.

Are u talking both axles from '97-03 models? the axle from 04 and up will not interchange. Yes,, the larger one is a heavy duty 975, which is good, but do they both have discs or drums? That would be a bit of trouble i would think , to change out. Other than that , they should fit. rossford BTW,,, check flange fit up on pinion.

not sure what that ross guy is smoking (swap from drums to disc is CAKE and takes only minutes !! I also HIGHLY doubt you have the "Heavy duty 9.75" rear. That would be a 7 lug. Most likely have a regular 9.75" rear)
.... anyways,

ANY axle can be made to work with ANY vehicle, just some are easier then others, thats all.

Which engine do you have ? In your current truck ? What year ?

What engine do you have in the "doner" truck ? What year ??

You can count the bolts holding the dif cover on. If it has only 10 bolts holding the cover on = 8.8" rear end and if you have 12 bolts holding it on, its the 9.75" rear end.

Are you 4x4 ?

You may need to use the flange off the wrecked driveshaft, along with the rest of your current driveshaft. If you haven't cut up driveshafts before, I HIGHLY suggest you take it to a driveline specialist. They will know whatcha need. Plan to have the vehicle down for a weekend or two during install. But, you can ALWAYS make it work. If the new one is bigger, then its an upgrade !

yup your going from a 8.8" to the MUCH bigger 9.75". I would go for it. The only thing off the top of my head, would be some driveshaft work, but shop should be able to do that pretty quick and easy for you. Other then that, I think its about as direct a swap as you can get.
