There's alot of labor invloved in doing the front. The front axle assmebly has to be removed from the truck.......which means REMOVING the lift-kit. Are they aware of that?? Was that included in their estimate?? Unless.....there's enough clearance for the diff to come out with the axle still in place (doubtfull). Maybe someone else can confirm? I was wondering that when I installed my lift.......cause I really wasn't looking foward to doing that again.
Also what gears are they using? If they are using high quality gears with full install kits, that's not a bad price at all. To install Auburn Ected lockers, front and rear, I had estimated it would cost $2500 in parts just to do it myself.

if you drop the front differential yourself, and reinstall it, you will save a bit of coin. if you have another vehicle, I'd drop the rear axle as well, and take everything to them, and let them regear the differentials. then, i would reinstall everything myself. you should save yourself a good amount of money that way, if you're mechanically inclined...

seems a little pricey!
06 Sandstone,
That price seems a little up there. I suggest shopping around some more.
I regeared from 3.31's to 4.10's in my '02 -150. front and rear gears, install kits, and a Detroit trutrac for the rear was around 1100. i did the install and setup myself under a carport. Not the best place in the world to do such a job, but i gots it done. I already had a few tools, but had to get the essentials to do the job right. 33,000+ miles and the only trouble that i had was my own mistake: I did not use sealant around the outside of the pinion seal, and it sprang a leak while i was driving cross country.
But like i said, that $ 2700.00 seems a little pricey. I smell smoke, so look for them coals you're about to get raked over.

its not that hard of an install to do yourself. You need specialized tools, and you need plenty of patience. You need to be exact, double check, triple check, etc etc every measurment you take. Right everything down so you don't forget. There are a ton of write-ups online that will give you the general idea of how its done. I would think you could get er done yourself. If you do, let me know. I can see what I can dig up on the subject to help ya out.
That said, I think the estimate you got was about spot on. You don't need to remove your lift, just the dif (skid plate, and mounting bolts) its not that hard, but could be time consuming. The master install for JUST your rear, is over $300 IIRC, + the true-trac, + gears, plus labor, it adds up.

That'll get you started, it's the same install manual that came with my gears. Not rocket science but if you're not precise you'll chew up your new gears.
